Prologue

Dr. S. Malleswara Rao, Founer & Convenor.

In the words of Dr. Satram Malleswara Rao, Founder & Convener, Oldage Home society, Neelakantapuram.

Oldage is always associated with deterioration of health conditions which is known fact. Added to Oldage, the poverty of people in their last stage of life makes it very difficult for leading a normal life. From several interactions that I had with such elderly people, I started feeling pity for them. From the very humble thought and determination of helping at least a few such elderly people to lead a peaceful life in their last days, gradually my intention has changed to do something to make them feel cared and happy.

This humble thought is the cause of establishment of "Oldage Home Society".

Oldage Home Society, Neelakantapuram, took its shape for the first time on 04-09-1995 with help of like-minded friends who felt their heart for the betterment and improvement of senior citizens. Ours is a service oriented organisation and we provide free services at our Oldage Home for the needy.

Like any other good cause, we struggled initially and experienced some problems to run this home. With cooperation of benevolent people and with positive thought, we wanted to get over these at any cost. But our intention is not to knock the doors for financial aid. We then decided to take procession in and around the villages regularly in order to bring awareness to the public at large towards the need to help the old and destitute and to run the Home for their cause. As a result of our efforts, public voluntarily started coming forward donating money, food, clothes. Thus the saying "where there is a will, there is a way" has come true.

As on today, our Oldage Home earned excellent reputation for our noble service. Many kind-hearted people are spreading the news and providing donations. Our Oldage Home is being visited by prominent people and VIP's which include politicians, doctors, advocates, senior officials in Government, elders of nearby villages, priests, executives and others who are also extending their helping hand after recognising the value of our selfless service.

Initially we started to care for five aged people. As on today we are able to provide shelter to nearly 40 poor elderly and disabled people. Irrespective of caste, creed, religion, one can apply for admission to this Home. The committee thoroughly scrutinizes the applications to ascertain the credibility of the information provided. Then we give admission and extend our free service to the people who are in dire need.

Once admission is granted, we hold responsibility for all the needs like food, shelter, medical care etc. during their lifetime. We are providing all the required facilities on par with any other best paid homes, in a peaceful and hygienic environment. Thus our Home is taking care of so many aged people. We also performed cremation of more than hundred inmates till now by following tradition.

This organisation has recently started another free service to the needy not only to the inmates of the Home but to outsiders under the name of "Satram Venkata Rajani Kumar Free Diabetes Treatment Centre" with effect from 27-07-2015. The centre has adopted 108 poor diabetic patients. As part of this programme, we perform blood tests every month and provide medical aid through experienced doctors who are volunteering their services for this good cause. We have setup the laboratory and the clinic in the Oldage Campus itself and providing all these tests at free of cost. The centre also provides free medicines for all 108 patients who are suffering from Diabetes, Blood Pressure and General Debility.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my whole hearted thankfulness to all the committee members who are extending their services with heart and soul. They are behind the successful implementation of all these services. I also convey my gratitude to all the donors for their constant help and support.
